Westfield Senior Citizens Housing
The Second Westfield Senior Citizens Housing Corporation, 1129 Boynton Avenue, Westfield, is a three-storied, elevator equipped building for low-income senior citizens. Sitting on 8.5 acres of park-like land, it is adjacent to the existing senior citizens building, located at 1133 Boynton Avenue. The building, in the shape of a "W", is of brick veneer masonry construction. The grounds were designed with the safety, security and special needs of the residents in mind. The Trustees of the Corporation oversee the development and set policy, subject to the requirements of federal and state laws and regulations.
Second Westfield Senior Citizens Housing opened in October, 1995. The building is designed specifically for seniors, and meets all of the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Bathrooms, in all of the 131 one-bedroom units, have grab-rails. Laundry facilities are located on each floor, and the common areas include a library, a multipurpose room equipped with computers with internet access, and a dining room. Our own van provides transportation to town, and is used for weekly trips to nearby areas of interest. A comprehensive recreation program offers book groups, college courses, lectures, concerts, parties, and outings. Our exercise programming includes fitness classes, a walking group, the PACE program (People With Arthritis Can Exercise), Yoga, indoor exercise equipment, and the LifeTrail, an outdoor series of exercise stations, strategically placed along a walking path. - Applicants for each apartment must be 62 years of age or older.
- Income eligibility standards, established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, must be met.
- As a Low Income Housing Tax Credit Project, Federal Regulations require that we verify the income of all family members applying for admission, and that we continue to verify this information annually. For 2016, the maximum gross annual income, from all income sources, must be below $38,760 for a one-person household, and below $44,280 for a two-person household.
